“Volunteering is at the very core of being a human. No one has made it through life without someone else’s help.” Heather French Henry, Former Miss America, Fashion Designer
It will be the Village’s job to know this community’s resources. Members will receive help with referrals to existing programs and services in our community. Members will need to pay for some services or programs. But a number of member needs can be met by our own cadre of volunteers or those who are part of other organizations.
Our volunteer corps will embrace the simple idea of neighbors helping neighbors. We hope to attract people of all ages who understand the powerful benefits of giving, of investing energy into a program that will be there for them when they need it.
As an added incentive to give help to Village members, we hope to offer volunteers a tangible “thank you,” such as a reduction in membership costs based on volunteerism or some other mechanism for expressing our gratitude for their service. This is a common practice in villages nationwide, yielding an expert and dedicated volunteer corps.
Right now, the Sierra Foothills Village needs volunteers in two areas:
Help complete development work of key programs
Sign up to offer specific services once the Village is launched
Help Us Complete Development Work
We need talented people in the following areas:
Help us develop and review necessary forms, manuals and other documents for the volunteer and membership programs
Help locate and “vet” listings for our Preferred Provider program
Make presentations to community groups about the Village
Help Us Provide Services after Launch
We are gathering names of people interest in the following areas:
Drivers for appointments, errands, or other transportation needs
Companions for medical appointments or friendly home visits
Help with pets
Home or yard maintenance
Light home support, like changing lightbulbs or alarm batteries
Office work on phone and email responses to member requests
Committee service, such as membership, fundraising, events
Join our Board of Directors or Working Group
Our Board of Directors has legal responsibility for guiding the Village. Our Directors are all extremely active in advancing Village development. Our Working Group members give time and talent on specific projects or help provide development continuity by working side by side with the Board on needed projects.
Each offers an opportunity for intimate involvement in shaping and advancing the Village. We are interested in adding talented, compatible people to these two guiding groups. If you would like to learn more, please contact us so we can talk about how you can help. Click Here
It will be the Village’s job to know this community’s resources. We hope to receive volunteer assistance to fill some member’s needs through alliances with such organizations as FREED, Rotary, RSVP, and the many others who are already providing services to people in need. We will also need to cultivate a volunteer corps of our own, where the simple idea of neighbors helping neighbors is enough of an incentive for many to volunteer.
Volunteer Recognition Program
As an added incentive to give help to Village members, we hope to offer volunteers a tangible “thank you,” such as credit for hours volunteered, a reduction in eventual membership costs based on volunteerism, or some other mechanism for expressing our gratitude for their service. This is a common practice in villages nationwide, yielding an expert and dedicated volunteer corps.
Founding Members and Key Positions
Currently we have nine Founders who are functioning as a volunteer governing board to shepherd the Village through its development process. All have contributed money to pay for essential expenses, such as website development, post office box rental, office expenses, national conference attendance and more. They are already deeply engaged in this community but are giving many hours of time to help make the Village a reality.
Through fundraising and grants, some villages are able to hire part-time or even full-time staff to handle, such jobs as Executive Director, Membership and Volunteer Coordination, and more. It is the Founders’ hope that we will be able to cultivate generosity among neighbors who can help contribute both time and funds to move the Village forward.
